| This is another drive where 4WD and a high clearance is recommended. The pine forests and aspen groves south of Ekalaka shelter the nation’s highest reported nesting density of merlins. You will also spot great horned owls and eagles here. Wild Turkeys abound. From Ekalaka, take CR 323 south for 23 miles. Go left (east) on Tie Creek Road for a little over 11 miles to Forest Road 118. Go left (north) one mile to the forest boundary and the start of the tour. You can get a brochure describing this drive in detail from any Custer National Forest office. |
