| Pioneer was built in 1862 before the Gold Creek placers were abandoned for the big strike in Bannack. At one time there were several hotels, general stores, black smith shops and so on. The piles of tailings surrounding the remains are highly visible remnants of the ugly side of mining operations. The road is easy to drive. |
