Nestled in the Big Belt Mountains, Holter Lake is a great fishing area for trout, walleye and salmon. The lake is a great place to play or lounge on the beach and also offers a chance to see many birds, such as, peregrine falcons, American white pelicans, great blue herons and loons. Don’t forget to look up on the rock outcroppings above the lake for bighorn sheep and mountain goats. Holter Lake is nearby the Gates of the Mountains Wilderness, Beartooth Wildlife Management Area, and Sleeping Giant Wilderness Study Area which offer wonderful hiking adventures, horseback riding, boat-in camping and beautiful picnic spots.
