The Morelli Bridge

Location: At Reeder's Alley
“Where Benton Avenue swings by the Stonehouse and joins Reeder’s Alley, forming a “Y”, is the Helena end of the old Benton Road. During the 1860s and 1870s, when Montana was still a Territory, settlers from the “States” were brought up the Missouri by riverboat to Fort Benton, thence by oxen or mule team to Helena. The Benton Road avoided the mud and dust of Last Chance Gulch by continuing along the side hill. Cargo was unloaded at various points down the “Gulch”. Above the Stonehouse is Morrelli Bridge, said to be fashioned after the Morrelli Bridge in Milan, Italy.” (Helena, Her Historic Homes, Jean Baucus, Vol. 1, 1976).
