Before the Milwaukee Railroad made this town a station on the branch line to Winnett, it existed as a trading center to local settlers. Surrounding the new town was some of the finest open grassland which was home to the early cattle herds that grazed the area. These magnificent grasslands were later plowed under by homesteaders.
