The Lewis and Clark expedition received horses from Sacajawea’s brother, Chief Cameahwait, at Camp Fortunate Overlook. The horses were needed to cross the upcoming mountain ranges and continue the Corp of Discovery’s journey into the Columbia River drainage. The area is perfect for fishing, boating and camping. An interpretive memorial to Sacajawea is also found here. Nearby, Clark Canyon Recreation Area boasts a man-made lake that is a local favorite for water skiing and rainbow trout fishing.
