Gallatin and Park County Government Information and Regulations

Moving to a new state can be confusing with new policies to learn and regulations to follow. Here are a few guidelines to heed upon your move.

Voting in Montana

Upon moving to Gallatin or Park County, completion of a voter registration form is necessary to vote in all elections. To vote in Montana, individuals must be a US citizen, at least 18 years old, and a resident of a Montana county for at least thirty consecutive days. Registration forms are available at the Clerk and Recorder Offices in both counties or by calling the office and requesting a mail-in card. On election day, all registered voters must show one acceptable form of ID. This ID can be a picture ID, or a government document, bank statement, utility bill, or paycheck with your name and current address listed.

Driving in Montana

If you’re permanently moving to Montana from another state, you have 120 days to obtain a valid Montana driver’s license at the license and exam office. Montana requires all drivers to be at least 16 years of age, with the exception of those who have taken a driver’s education course at 14 1/2 who may receive their license at age 15. To avoid retaking the test, drivers must renew their licenses within ninety days of the birthday expiration date. If you are planning on working and living here, all vehicles must be registered with the state.
