Pirogue Island is on the Yellowstone River just a few miles north of Miles City. The densely wooded area is an oasis for abundant wildlife including beavers, deer and many different species of birds. Moss agate hunting and floating are popular recreational activities at this park. Sheltered by mature cottonwoods, floaters find this isolated and undeveloped Yellowstone River island an excellent spot to view wildlife and hunt for Montana moss agates. During low water, a small channel can be forded by vehicle to obtain access to the island from the mainland.
