From its humble beginnings in 1940s, the Range Riders Museum has become one of the finest museums in the northwest. Located on the original Fort Keogh cantonment, the museum features a fascinating variety of extensive displays.

Over the years, volunteers have scaled down a number of historic sites from Miles City’s past, including the old Milwaukee Road locomotive repair shops, an Indian village, Fort Keogh and the old LO Ranch, the largest working ranch in the area in the early part of the century.

The life-sized exhibits include the Heritage Center, which, as the name implies, has a little bit of everything from the early days. The Milestown street has a hotel, a post office, a blacksmith’s shop, a bank, a store and a saloon.

Two new additions to the museum are the Bert Clark Family Gun Collection, which includes over 400 pieces dating back to the Revolutionary War. The museum also added a Charles M. Russell Gallery to display prints donated to the museum.

The Range Riders Museum takes pride in having a little bit of everything and something to represent all walks of life in the early days — from cowboys and sheepherders, to homesteaders, businessmen, teachers and just plain ordinary folk.
