Just up the road from Baker is the little town of Plevna. This homestead-era boomtown was founded by immigrants from Russia. It received its name from a town in Bulgaria captured by Russian troops in 1877. Every October, the residents of the town and surrounding areas congregate at the fire hall for the annual sausage supper. Nearby is Dead Man’s Butte. It was at this spot that a stage line driver named Fritz lost his life. The stage line ran from Fort Lincoln, near Bismarck, ND, to Fort Keogh near Miles City.
