Plentywood is a high plains community tucked away in the northeast corner of Montana and serves as a 24-hour port entry into Canada. Approximately 2,200 people dwell in this town which has very little water and few mountains. Called the "gateway to Saskatchewan," this small town claims grain and livestock as the kings of the local economy. You might wonder how a little town sitting on the high prairie would get a name like this. The story goes that a bunch of cowboys and a cook were attempting to build a fire out of buffalo chips. Old Dutch Henry came along and told them “If you’ll go a couple of miles up this creek, you’ll find plenty wood.” When it came time to name the town, these words of wisdom were remembered. |
