Location: City Park on the Missouri, Fort Benton This museum focuses on the colorful history of Fort Benton which is depicted through dioramas, photos and many interesting artifacts. One such artifact is the rifle of Nez Perce leader Chief Joseph who surrendered to Colonel Nelson A. Miles at the Bear’s Paw Battlefield. The museum highlights the important role Fort Benton played in the settlement of the American West as a trading post, military fort and head of steamboat navigation on the Missouri River. There is an admission fee to visit the museum which is open May to September. It is also available by appointment during other months. |
