Included in displays here are early plains Indian artifacts from the McClellan and Sullivan collections. You will also find exhibits on the homesteading days, ranching and farming in Phillips County, mining, early day schools, mercantile, an early day doctor’s office, and many wildlife mounts. On display is a very fine dinosaur collection including many marine fossils found in the area, and a life size Albertosaurus. An informative display of early day outlaw, Kid Curry, is featured telling the story of his infamous train robbery in 1901, just to the west of Malta. The robbery netted the gang $40,000 and was never recovered. There is also a Brand Board showing family brands burned into wood. Some of the original brands seen on the Texas trail herds, are still being used on the local cattle herds. A stage coach is exhibited which was used to travel from Malta to Zortman, a 50 mile trip, through mud, snow and mosquitoes. Open mid-May through mid-September. Admission is free.
