Named for the nearby falls on the Missouri which was named by Lewis and Clark for the many eagles in the area. In the early 1900s, it was nicknamed ?Little Chicago? because of the refineries and smelters that fed its existence. The town was populated early on by people of Slavic descent who, for many years, retained the habits, customs and dialects of the old country.
