Eden

Late 1880s settlers in the area were first required to rely on established postal services in neighboring communities. However, under these circumstances, settlers found sending and receiving mail not only inconvenient, but also sporadic. In 1899, a group of early homesteaders decided to petition Washington for their own post office. When Washington officials granted the request, the settlers dubbed their new post office and community Eden after the area’s beautiful surroundings. With Robert Meisenbach serving as the first postmaster, the service operated in Eden until 1960.
