Power

The town of Power started as a wheat shipping point on the Great Northern Railroad. The town was named for T.C. Power, a homesteader in the early 1900s. At one time two bars were built so close to the tracks that the train engineer could reach out the window and grab a beer as he went by. When he blew his whistle, some thought it was to warn the horse and buggy traffic crossing the tracks to beware. It was really a signal to the bar owners—”Here I come, have my beer ready.”
