Smoke Jumper Training &
Aerial Fire Depot Visitor Center

Location: West of Missoula airport on Hwy. 10.
(406) 329-4900
When a forest fire breaks out in the west, it is probable that smokejumpers trained here are busy fighting it. This is the oldest and largest of several centers operated nationally by the U.S. Forest Service. The visitor’s center is a museum of the history of fire fighting since 1939, and includes photographs, murals and motion pictures. See an authentic fire lookout building, the water bomb and an exhibit on how parachutes are folded and lines are straightened. The Center is open from mid-May through mid-September with tours on the hour.
