This was a busy town when the Hungry Horse Dam project began. The town was accused of being brash and pompous prompting one writer to comment, “Martin City, for instance, is busily planning a ‘Pioneer Days’ fete in the spring to honor its ‘oldtimers;’ the town will be one year old then… Martin City occasionally sings hymns of praise to its pioneer ‘business men’—barkeeps; it has seven bars and that’s about all it has. …”
