Whitefish Museum

Location: North end of Central Ave., Whitefish. (406) 862-0067
Once a depot for the Burlington Northern Railroad, this museum holds interesting local history with numerous railroad artifacts. The station’s architecture is a reminder of times when first-class travel was by rail, and Glacier National Park was a favored destination for rich Easterners.

Today the depot still houses the Amtrak offices. A 1942 restored locomotive is displayed outdoors. This diesel is one of the first ever made and has been beautifully restored and repainted to the Great Northern Railway’s Omaha orange and Pullman green. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free, but contributions are welcome.
