Located in the heart of the Flathead Indian Reservation, Elmo is found on the Big Arm of Flathead Lake’s western shores.  Named for David Elmo (or perhaps Elmier or Elemie), a Native American who lived in the area during the late 1800s and early 1900s, Elmo’s first town-site was located approximately one mile northeast of its present location.
