| The Heritage Museum, a 12-sided log structure, 130 feet in diameter, is filled with Libby’s old musical instruments, household implements and logging equipment. Special displays give an understanding of the region’s wildlife, logging industry and mining. The exhibits portray the various peoples that came into the area Kootenai Indians, trappers, miners, lumbermen, and women. Animal life exhibits in native habitats present the natural history of the surrounding terrain, and includes a silver-tipped grizzly and a mural of the local skyline.
A small house, furnished in turn of the century styles; an art gallery; exhibits by the Forest Service, mining interests, and the lumber industries are also featured in the main building. On the grounds there is a miner’s cabin furnished by the Libby Woman’s Club, an old forestry cookhouse, an equipment shed for old wagons, and other old buildings which are used to house special features. The museum is open June, July, and August. |
