| The Madison Hotel is a historical landmark. Originally built by Roxy and Dolly Bartlett, who settled in West during the spring of 1912. Dolly worked in the Timberline Cafe next door and Roxy was a driver who took tourists on the five day trip through Yellowstone Park by stagecoach. They built the Madison Hotel as a hunting lodge, replacing the tent hotel on the property directly across the street from the railroad station. The hotel was a hub of excitement for the next forty years as it grew to 28 rooms, with a dance hall and bar. Important visitors like Presidents Harding and Hoover, Clark Gable, and Gloria Swanson graced it’s rooms. In 1959 the Hadley’s purchased the hotel with new attitudes and styles while maintaining the historical atmosphere. Downstairs rooms were replaced with a gift shop, where visitors today can still entertain themselves with the unique collection of souvenirs, gifts, and other collectibles. Open seven days a week. The hotel still offers rooms with clean linens, comfortable beds, and pleasant friendships. The lobby has been carefully preserved with original furnishings. Visit them on the web. Visitors are welcome to tour unrented rooms before 6 p.m. | ||||||||||
