Old Montana Prison

This building functioned as a prison from 1871–1979. It is comprised of 12 historic structures surrounded by a high sandstone wall. Enjoy self-guided tours around the cell house, maximum security areas and walled prison grounds. Signs of the 1959 riot are still visible. The experience provides a view of early prison life and area history. Guided tours available in summer. Open daily 8 a.m.–8 p.m., June–Aug.; 8:30 a.m.–5:30 a.m. April–May and Sept.–Oct.; otherwise varies.
