| This is Montana’s largest museum displaying artifacts covering 12,000 years of history. Paintings of Montana landscapes and people give a rich perspective into life in Montana through the eyes of artists. It has the largest collection of books and periodicals about Montana in the world. Permanent galleries also exhibit the photography of F. Jay Haynes and another to the works of Charlie Russell. The Montana Historical Society is the oldest organization in the West. Founded in 1865 it was initially a private exclusive organization for prominent Montana pioneers. The museum and Museum Store are open year round and no admission is charged. |
