Marysville

Just north of Helena off Hwy. 279 you can find Marysville, which isn’t quite deserted and some mining still goes on, but not like the days when the Drumlummon Mine was going strong during the 1880s and 1890s. The mine was named by an Irishman, Thomas Cruse, who named it after his birthplace in Ireland, once Montana’s leading gold producer. It is estimated that over $50,000,000 in gold production came out of the town. Unique to the mining camp is the baseball field and bleachers that still stand. Many buildings still stand from the years when 3,000 people lived there.
