Fort Maginnis
Begin by driving east from Lewistown on Hwy.. 87 approximately 12 miles to the Cheadle turnoff and go north. Head toward the ghost town of Gilt Edge and follow the signs to the Fort. This site features the historic ruins of the 1880 frontier military post which was crucial in the development of the area. Near the Fort is a small cemetery with several graves, including the grave of Teddy Blue Abbott, a famous western author. If you have the time, include a visit to the Fort on the ghost town tour.
