General info

Located on the east side of the Flint Range, this cabin was originally built as a mining cabin in the 1930s. It was later given to the Forest Service and refurbished. Racetrack Cabin is a favorite of hiking enthusiasts during the summer months. The surrounding area is serene and beautiful, and somewhat off the beaten path. No water, vault toilet.  Open Season January.  $20/night fee.

  • The cabin has one room with three bunk beds.
  • There is a table, chairs, some cooking utensils and dishes, a wood stove is available for cooking as well as heating (wood is supplied).
  • There is no electricity or water at this cabin.

Directions:

This cabin is 25 miles southwest of Deer Lodge, Montana. From Deer Lodge, take Interstate 90 to the Racetrack exit. Proceed 1 mile west, then south ¾ mile, then west on Forest Service Road #169 for 5 miles past Racetrack Campground. We recommend using a Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest Visitor Map to find the route to the cabin.
