A recreation rental cabin in the Bozeman District. This cabin was built in 1930. The cabin can be accessed by the Garnet Mountain Lookout Trail, a 4.5-mile trail with a 2,800 feet elevation gain, by hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking in the summer. ATV and motorcycles can access by the Rat lake Trail from June 16 through December 1. In the winter the cabin can be accessed by skiing, snowmobiling, or snowshoeing the 10-mile trail.
During winter months, park near Shenango Station and ski, snowshoe, or snowmobile the 10 miles to the lookout via the Storm Castle Creek and Rat Lake Roads. Motorcycle and ATV access is possible via the Rat Lake Road.
There is a wood-burning stove for heat and a propane stove for cooking. Basic cooking items, table and chairs, beds with thin mattress pads, fire ring outside, and firewood for woodburning stove inside the cabin. No electricity or water.
Summer-trail access from the nearest road is 3.5 mi. Winter-10 mi. ski or snowmobile.
