High Rye Cabin is located in the historic German Gulch, approximately 20 miles west of Butte, off Interstate 90, and south of Fairmont Hot Springs. The cabin was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps around 1919. It was used as an administrative site until the 1940's when it was opened to the public. It is situated in a meadow and forested setting in the northern Fleecer Mountains. It is a popular spot for summer activities and hunting during the fall big game hunting season. The cabin has one bedroom that will sleep four. There is an outhouse; water is available from an adjacent creek. Horse facilities are available at the cabin. Firewood is not always available at the cabin but can be found nearby.
There is no water available at the cabin; however, there is a creek adjacent to the cabin. Any water taken from the creek must be treated prior to consumption.The cabin is available to rent from May 16th through December 2nd.
$20/night fee.
Directions:
The cabin is located approximately 20 miles southwest of Butte. From Butte, take Interstate 90 west and take the Gregson exit. Drive approximately two miles and turn left onto Forest Road #83 (German Gulch Road). Follow FS road
