General info

Coal Banks Landing Recreation site and campground offer tent camping sites.  Picnic tables and fire rings.  Vaulted toilets and water available. Open all year round with a camp host May 15 through September 15.  There is a boat launch at campground, popular for boating the upper Missouri River. $10/night fee with a maximum stay of 14 days. Activities include boating, fishing, hiking, picnicking, and wildlife viewing.

Directions: To reach Coal Banks Landing Recreation Area, exit US Highway 87 northeast of Fort Benton, Montana or southwest of Big Sandy.  From Fort Benton go northeast on US highway 87 approximately 32 miles, turn right onto Gardiner Road, follow signs, proceed 8 miles on gravel road to campground.  From Big Sandy drive southwest on US highway 87 for 6 miles, turn left onto Virgelle Ferry Road, drive about 6 miles to campground.
