Big Nelson Campground is located on Cooper's Lake in the Lolo National Forest. There are 6 campsites. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Vaulted toilet is available. No water. This is a pack in pack out campground. Outfitter guides and horse rental 4 miles away. This is a semi-remote campground. Beautiful views of the Bob Marshall and Scapegoat wilderness. No fee for camping. Maximum stay 14 days. Open June 15 through September 15.
Directions: From the junction of Montana highways 83 and 20 (also known as "Clearwater Junction") travel east on Montana Highway 200 for 19.5 miles. Turn north on North Fork Blackfoot road #5550 and follow the signs 12 miles on a gravel road to the campground.
