Vandalia’s history is spotted with Dutch heritage and a ranching spirit. Established in the late 1800s, Vandalia acquired a post office in 1904 with Henry H. Nelson acting as postmaster. It is rumored that Nelson’s large log home in Vandalia, completed in 1902, served as the inspiration for Glacier National Park’s St. Mary’s Lodge.
