Henry Hall played an instrumental role in bringing the Northern Pacific Railroad to this small settlement. In his honor, residents christened their community, Hall, as the railroad enabled the community to become an important livestock shipping and receiving center. By 1896, the town was large enough to support a post office, and Ella Engle served as the first postmaster.
