This popular recreation area is nestled in the Sapphire Mountain Range and in the Lolo National Forest, a fly fishing mecca. The stream has rainbow, cutthroat, brown, brook and bull trout. Bighorn sheep are plentiful on the rocky bluffs. As you pass through this beautiful valley, watch for moose, bear and mountain lions.
Bald eagles and hawks are plentiful as well as a number of waterfowl. The road leaves the interstate and immediately enters a canyon where it winds along Rock Creek for 49 miles. There are six trailheads along the road into the National Forest and the Welcome Creek Wilderness area. Along this road, you’ll also find the ghost town of Quigley. Not much left here but a sign.
