Originally called “Lake of the White Moose” by the Indians because of an albino moose that once visited its shores, the scenic 906-acre lake is now the setting of many water sports. The name was changed when a settler named Wilson Harlan came to the area. He thought the beautiful lake sitting against the backdrop of the snowcapped Bitterroot Mountains reminded him of Lake Como in Italy. His ranch later became the Como Ranch, and the peaks beyond became the Como Peaks. This recreational site is excellent for swimming, skiing, boating or fishing and offers a seven-mile trail around the lake. Facilities include: 9 camping units, an equestrian campground with a livestock ramp, picnic areas and toilets.
