Named after the surrounding Moccasin mountain range, Moccasin’s history has been plagued with destruction. Although the town’s first years as a settlement in the early 1900s were prosperous, a 1916 fire wreaked havoc on local business owners. Subsequent fires in 1919, 1922, and 1955 have left the community with a small population, but the town has hope for the future. Today, Moccasin is an important wheat-producing area along with neighboring towns in Judith Basin County.
