The Havre area is located in the north-central part of the state. One of the most popular attractions in Havre is the historical tour through Havre’s underground city. In 1904 the town was destroyed by fire and due to a shortage of building material, the businesses were moved to the underground steam tunnels that ran beneath the town until materials were available to rebuild the town above ground. The Missouri Breaks, the White Cliffs, and Fort Benton are all parts of this area. Fort Benton was a major commerce area for the gold rush towns of Helena and Butte.
