Volborg’s post office opened in 1915 in response to the numerous stockmen who were attracted to the area’s Pumpkin Creek. Noting the unfenced ranges and vast water supply, these stockmen migrated with their families and cattle to Montana in search of prosperity. Frontier life proved to be difficult, though, and many ranchers moved to pursue new Western lands. Today, Volborg is home to a post office and country store.
