Believed to have been settled first in 1879 and the railroad came through over a decade later. During the years Marion was a base camp for the railroad workers. The train years were short-lived when better and less treacherous routes were built.
During the construction of the route to Marion about 20 Chinese men were killed during a terrible blast and buried along the now deserted grade. Marion eventually became a lumber town and when that industry faded so did Marion.
