Mildred

Named after a Milwaukee Railroad official’s daughter, Mildred was established in the early 1900s near O’Fallon Creek. As the Old Yellowstone Trail passed through the community in the early years, so did several tourists. Supported by tourists, town business boomed. At one time, the Mildred school serviced the education needs of nearby communities, and the community hall was the scene for functions ranging from dances to sporting events to spelling bees. However, when a new highway was built that bypassed the community, several citizens left in search of new, more promising beginnings.
