White Sulphur Springs is so named because of white deposits around the hot sulphur springs that were found in this area. The springs are still active and provide commercial opportunities for the community. Indians came from long distances to use the medicinal waters from these springs.
Situated in the Smith River Valley, White Sulphur Springs, frequented by buffalo and originally a trading center, has since become famous for its fine cattle.
